Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Wednesday said that if the allegations against him were proven, he would hang himself.
“It’s been four months. They [wrestlers] want me to be hanged. The government is not hanging me and so they are going to immerse their medals in the Ganga, those who are levelling allegations should know that by immersing medals in the Ganga, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will not get hanged, if you have any proofs, give it, police, courts will give punishment” said Mr. Singh, adding if a single allegation was proved against him, he would hang himself.
Mr. Singh made these remarks while touring Barabanki, gathering support for his June 5, ‘Jan Chetna Maha Rally’ in Ayodhya’s Ramkatha park.

Wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, deferred their plan to immerse their Olympic and world championship medals in the Ganga after farm leaders persuaded them not to take the drastic step. The wrestlers, who have been on a dharna at Jantar Mantar since April 23, are demanding strict action against Mr. Singh, accusing him of sexually harassing women wrestlers. He faces two FIRs, including one under the POCSO Act, in the matter.
Amid the protests, Mr. Singh, a six-term Lok Sabha member, is organising the ‘Jan Chetna Maha Rally’ which is seen as an attempt to showcase his strength. He invited supporters and well-wishers from all over the country to attend the rally, claiming the gathering was planned on the appeal of seers.
